According to preliminary estimations, electricity consumption in Switzerland fell by 1.7% to 56 TWh in 2023 compared to 2022. Meanwhile, domestic electricity production increased significantly by 13.5% to 72.1 TWh. One reason for this is the substantially higher production of hydropower plants and the increasing contribution from new renewables. Last year, Switzerland achieved an export surplus for the first time since 2020.
